STEPS TO HOST A SCREENING

Securing the Film License and Film Materials

Note: Even if a film is available on streaming platforms such as Apple or Amazon, that license only covers personal, private viewing. When a film is shown in a group setting, whether in a classroom, community center, or any public or semi-public space, it legally counts as a “public performance.” To stay compliant with U.S. copyright law and respect the filmmakers’ work, a public performance license is required, and we will help you secure this license. If you are interested in personal viewing, visit our Watch at Home page.

When we receive your contact information, we will provide you with a preview link of the film so you and any other decision-makers can make sure that the film is right for your group.

Contact UsWhen you are ready to proceed, we will discuss the estimated size of your group, the setting(s) for your screening (in-person or virtual, one location or many), your technology needs (digital download, streaming, or DVD), and the nature of your screening (one-time or recurring). This will help determine the right license for your needs.
Agree to TermsWe will set you up with your license, and you will review and agree to the terms.
Pay Licensing FeeDepending on the type of license you require, there may be a fee. As we are a nonprofit organization, any fees are used to pay distribution costs and fund our outreach efforts.
Receive your MaterialsThe documentary will be delivered to you in the manner agreed upon. We will provide a link to our digital screening kit which contains a discussion guide and helpful promotional materials such as images, film trailer, and social media posts.
